Where have I been?

Not sure anyone really cares, so I'll spare any details. But it's been around 18 months since my last post, which means the chances of this being read are rather slim. In any event, my thanks for your eyeballs today.

The smartest people in America

If you coulda but didn't vote in the 2008 presidential election, congratulations. For in my opinion you're among the smartest people in America. And it's a pretty big club - more than 75 million strong. So you're definitely not alone. In fact, it's nearly one of every two folks over 18 you encounter during the course of your normal day. Really. To paraphrase someone, 75 million people can't be wrong. Or out of touch. Many of you have a working knowledge of how government operates, enough to rightly believe the game is rigged and voting for the lesser of two evils is still evil.

Getting high (OK, drunk) with Dr. Albert Hofmann, the man who discovered LSD

One of the better days of my life was sitting down with Albert Hofmann in his secluded Swiss home and discussing everything from his infamous bicycle ride to God. My wife and I ended up spending almost 6 hours with Albert and his lovely wife Anita. Albert was 97 at the time but sharp as a tack - and looked decades younger. We seemed to bond rather quickly, mainly because we both felt that Timothy Leary screwed the pooch on LSD by making it all sound too easy. Remember his "turn on, tune in and drop out" mantra?

California or bust(ed?)

Seems like all the buzz, as it were, inside drug policy reform is about the cannabis initiative on California's ballot this November. If it passes - a big if - cannabis will become, after all the court challenges are settled, of course, legal for all California adult residents. It would follow that all the medical marijuana dispensaries currently in business will simply crossover from caregiver to become full-fledged (and full-profit-seeking) marijuana merchants.

ObamaCare for junkies

The short and simple truth is that there isn't any. Nowhere in the bill is there any quarter given: no clean needles for intravenous drug users, parochially known as junkies. ObamaCare doesn't seem to actually care, though clean needles would stem the spread of HIV/Aids by well over 50%. Think about that. One of the most deadly and ever-changing viruses, with no known cure, is allowed to spread simply because IV-drug users are deemed disposable and, in some circles, less than human. But, hey, Obama got those insurance fucks to cover your pre-existing back problem, right?
