Obama(doesn't)Care

It has been quite interesting to follow all the weirdness going on in the health-care debate. It's all mindless, of course, as whatever bill will be voted upon is not even close to being written. But one thing is certain: Barack Obama is in shock. He doesn't show it, but he is. This was not the way it was supposed to be. It was supposed to be so much easier. Obama was surfing a pretty big wave of approval early on, and now, especially regarding healthcare, he finds it's rushing toward the rocks. President Obama needs to find his mojo. Here's how.

First, honor your campaign promise to facilitate a program to supply IV- drug users with clean needles. Every study shows such a program would reduce the spread of HIV/Aids by at least 50%. Only the most hardcore prohibitionists would be against such a compassionate program - so fuck them. But the most important mojo magnet would be removing marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act and ending all federal subsides to states for enforcing marijuana prohibition. This makes sense for one very good reason. It seems all but certain that one recommendation from Sen. Jim Webb's National Criminal Justice Commission Act of 2009 (designed to do a complete review of the criminal justice system, especially as it pertains to current drug policy) will be to decriminalize - if not legalize - the cultivation and consumption of marijuana for personal use. The President being proactive on this issue will cause him very little heartburn, as a very large majority of Americans would support the initiative. The only question, and it's a good and fair one, is whether Barack Obama has the balls to do it.
