The politics of sex and drugs

Anyone that knows me knows I'm a firm believer in repealing adult drug prohibitions. So it should come as no real surprise to find I believe just as firmly in ending prohibitions against the adult sex trade. We have shown to be unable at keeping individuals from consuming drugs, and we're certainly not going to get anyone among us to quit fucking. And since drugs and sex seem to often go hand-in-hand, I thought I'd ruminate on that a bit.

Alcohol is and will probably remain the social/sexual lubricant of choice. It can be used unwisely, of course, and many morning afters have been spent, mostly by women, cursing the demon brews and making deals with Jesus. However, I've not met many men or women whose morning after a night of pagan joy, fueled by pot or other non-alcoholic intoxicants, that curses much or needs the ear of Jesus. Is it that alcohol, with all its fog and built-in excuses, allows a puritanical nation such as ours to get down and do the dirty deed? I don't consider sex to be a dirty deed, of course, but organized religion and its moralizing minions have done a fine job convincing many that it's not the cleanest of pursuits. But fuck them. Because whether God or mother nature is responsible for the orgasm, there can be no debate that the orgasm was designed to be pleasurable. But I digress.

Sex in the absence of intoxicants is fairly uncommon, but I'm sure there are those who find it the way to go. I can't remember meeting any, though. In any event, sex under the single influence of pot has great appeal, as does getting loosey-goosey with a variety of other fun drugs like cocaine, MDMA and opium. (I've been told that sex and LSD are great together, but I never found that to be the case. Maybe my usual dose level had something to do with it, but I can't recall ever wanting or even thinking about sex at the surreal height of a hallucinogenic experience).
